The Barattolo Project started in 2021 with an idea to transform a childhood home deep in the Tuscan countryside into a place of art, community, and sharing. This idea met the needs of a group of (art) students hoping to create experiences of togetherness and knowledge sharing beyond traditionally hierarchical art spaces. In January 2022, the first meetings took place with a group of ten friends to organize the first events. Over the years, our team consolidated into six members, Irene, Milan, Ellen, Jole, Ro, and Giordano. Together, we have successfully organized countless events between the Netherlands and Italy, including three workshop festivals. Nowadays, we are taking a leap of faith and investing into the next phase of this project – starting residencies, and moving into Calcinaia, the family farm that will become our headquarters.
