Some Days Some Arts 2024

Some Days Some Arts 2024 featured workshops in music theory, portrait drawing, kiln building, clowning, plastic upcycling, pattern making, and tango. With plenty of experience under our belts, our team could navigate the waters of the third edition of our festival with ease and peace of mind. The group that formed during that time was strong, lively, and caring. Participants were encouraged to engage with the workshops and come up with spontaneous activities, which resulted in unexpected moments of fun, and delight.

Workshops

What we talk about when we talk about music

This workshop was the first music workshop of Some Days Some Arts. Made for musicians, non-musicians, music lovers and those who wanted to expand their knowledge on music and emotionality, and music production, it provided insight into what to listen for in music, and brough up interesting and lively conversation.

Look papa, no hands!

A portrait workshop, with a touch of madness. Zef started by giving an overview on portrait drawing, leading even the most unpractised of the group in creating a technical portrait of other participants. Then, all technicality flew out of the window, and the teacher encouraged the artists to force obstacles on their drawing process, creating unusual, fun, and dynamic portraits.

Kiln building

In this workshop, the participants made a kiln from scratch, using clay, ancient bricks, and sand. Under careful guidance, the kiln was built over a couple of days. Following this, the group made clay sculptures, and let them dry in the hot summer air. Finally, the sculptures were fired using the kiln and wood from the forest of Calcinaia.

The joy of clowning

During this workshop, Sasha taught the participants how to discover their inner clown. Starting by giving us an overview of the history of clowning, Sasha guided the group through different clown activities and created a community in which everyone could express themselves freely. What came of it was a triumph of colors, laughter, and stories.

Reuse,Reworth,Re-iron

Following the first edition of her workshop „Reuse, Reworth“, Jiwoo decided to bring another workshop, where to experiment with re-ironing plastic material into new sheets/ textiles. The participants took the task seriously and made creative pictures out of leftover plastic.

Pattern making

Pattern making is a precise and difficult craft. Andrew led us through the process of creating patterns that continue in a constant repetition. First, the group drew the patterns, then they woodblock printed them onto fabric. The result became a stunning tablecloth which will stay as a heirloom piece in Calcinaia.

Tango

Continuing on the year before, Michela and Beppe guided the participants in exploring more of the world of tango, especially how we can use and what the embrace means in the connection between the dancers and their hearts.
